The Pocket Fuel Groovers are a company of New York City based dancers founded by Nick Alselmo in 2020. Their movement is a style influenced by elements of contemporary, hip-hop, ballet, house, funk dance styles, and martial arts. By combining these movement forms with elements of theater, DJ-ing, team sport exercises and ideologies, they aim to push the boundaries of what is possible in a performance and communal setting. Their first project was a dance film, “Buffer Zone,” which was shot by Retrograde Studios in October 2020. They have performed at Arts on Site as part of their Arts Alive series, Ace Hotel in Brooklyn with curation from Celebrate: ART, Performance Mix Festival 36 at Abrons Arts Center, Maria Hernandez Park, Prospect Park, Hart Bar, and have been frequently billed on the program for ESTIA Variety Show. They have self-produced two evening-length works; “The Strides,” at Triskelion Arts in November 2021 and “The Swoon and the Whiplash of August 56th,” at the Center for Performance Research (CPR) in December of 2022.
